My new APRS station

My newest project is a permanent APRS digipeater to serve my part of main road E134. Currently it's located at my qth at about 400 meters asl, but still in a small valley up in the mountains close to Hardangervidda. A lot of amateurs work to expand the APRS network in western Norway - Vestlandet!

Active aprs-map embedded from APRS.FI!

The installation is based on APRX by by Matti Aarnio, OH2MQK, version 2.02.
It's running on a ASUS WL500GP V2 with OpenWRT as the operating system. The TNC is a OpenTracker + SMT integrated into the ASUS box, and for the moment connected to my Kenwood TM-V71A radio running 10W at 144.800 Mhz.

The ASUS box is linked into my wireless network, and to APRS-IS. The TM-V71A will be replaced with a dedicated radio and the installation will be packaged professionaly with some backup power in the next month.

Network routers like the ASUS can serve as a very efficient plattform for installations like this, the total cost for the installation is close to USD 100 not taking the radio and the work into account.

Interested in setting up one for your self or your group? I will post detailed descriptions here soon.
